“The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world.” — Michael Pollan

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering in its basic nature is an altruistic and simple action that anyone can do. Being able to add beneficial components to our environment and remove the harmful components increases the senses of belonging, ownership, and pride we should have for the world around us. It allows us to invest in initiatives bigger than us in turn transforming the ways we perceive and interact with our surroundings. Volunteers are integral for achieving our organization’s goals, so if you’ve been considering volunteering with us and haven’t yet, here’s your formal invitation to come out and join us!

Our Greenspaces

We have ample opportunities to accommodate your group at any one of the three greenspaces: Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, Red Mountain Park, and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. From creek clean-ups to pulling invasive species that overcrowd the understories of our forest habitats, these opportunities can range to fit the desires of your group initiative. For any inquiries beyond the volunteer request form within the Group Volunteering tab, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Sloan Miles, at programs@jeffcogreenways.org or sloan@jeffcogreenways.org.
