Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

Adults, children and teens (parents/guardians present), young professionals, college students, retirees, plant novices, master gardeners and naturalists, firemen, police officers, private investigators, astronauts, cowboys, Presidents of the United States past and present: ALL are welcome to come and get their hands dirty! With that being said if you are a curious and passionate person who wants to give back to our greenspaces, feel free to look at some of the opportunities we have below! For any other inquiries, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Sloan Miles, at programs@jeffcogreenways.org or sloan@jeffcogreenways.org.

Greenhouse Workdays

Are you interested in learning more about the native plants of Alabama? If so, consider signing up to help us propagate our plants at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. This is a great opportunity for people with differing plant knowledge backgrounds to learn more about what plants contribute to our wide-ranging state’s biodiversity. Who knows, maybe you’ll even start growing your own garden of native plants! Click here to sign up.

Garden Workdays

If you’ve attended our Greenhouse Workdays at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, amazing. If you’d like to take it a step further by doing more laborious tasks like weeding, thinning, and deadheading old plant growth to make way for new growth, this event is the next stage to understanding the gardening process for native plants. Come out and join us monthly for this great event! Click here to sign up.

Native Plant Sales

Look at how happy these volunteers are to be giving their time to help us sell some native plants…. This could be you TOO! Our annual Native Plant Sales in April and October are two of the biggest, most anticipated events on our calendar each year. They require a lot of helping hands to help make it run smoothly, so if you are a plant novice or well-seasoned gardener, have the ability to transport plants into cars, and are comfortable unsolicitedly smiling at people as they choose what plants they’d like to take home, consider volunteering for this event! Click here to sign up.

*All public volunteer opportunities will be regularly updated, so be on the lookout for new opportunities throughout the year!
