2025 Summer Internships
The Jefferson County Greenways is pleased to announce our 2025 Summer Internship Program. This year, four paid positions will be offered, including 2 Environmental Education internships, 1 Land Conservation internship, and 1 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) internship. The application deadline is Friday, February 28th. Selected students will be notified by March 7th, 2024, for an interview. Click on the internship descriptions and the application links below.
The Environmental Education Intern will work directly with Emily Hutto, the Lead Naturalist and Wildlife Care Specialist, and other program staff. Interns will lead field trips and public programs for youth and families and assist with wildlife care responsibilities.
The Land Conservation Intern will work directly with the Director of Land and Water Conservation, Charles Yeager. The intern will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in land stewardship and conservation methodologies.
The GIS Intern will work directly with the Director of Land and Water Conservation, Charles Yeager. They will use their GIS skills to gain hands-on, real-world experience while providing significant contributions to our land stewardship activities.
This internship program offers a unique opportunity for students to develop professional experience working at three of central Alabama’s most beloved and visited urban nature preserves.
Special priority will be given to students attending college in Alabama or students from Alabama majoring in biology, environmental studies, natural resource management, or any related field
Applicants must be rising junior and senior undergraduate students or recent graduates (within 1 year).
Selected applicants will be expected to complete 160 hours during the summer months of 2025.
Compensation for the Summer Internship program is $2,500.
