Jefferson County Greenways staff doing the hard work - Turkey Creek Office improvements are almost complete

You may have noticed a few changes at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve - new boulders on the roadside, fewer signs, fresh paint, an increased staff presence on busy weekends, and even a new manager. What you may not have noticed is the behind the scenes work needed to maintain and improve Turkey Creek. Mowing, trimming, weeding, litter pick up, fallen tree removal, and facility repairs. This work takes place every day and is completed by a fantastic and growing staff of maintenance technicians, land stewards, interns, and more. We are hard at work to better facilitate the care of the preserve and to manage the expanding staff more efficiently.

Amazingly, there has been little third-party involvement in this endeavor. It is the result of diligent, hard work by park management, and maintenance technicians. We have installed new insulation and resealed doors and windows to make the space more energy-efficient. A new mini-split heat pump was installed to conserve electricity while providing a comfortable work environment. The old drop ceiling and lights have been replaced with fresh drywall and modern, recessed lighting. A kitchenette is being added for the staff to use. New desks and a conference table are coming. There may even be a few special artistic elements to bring the new space to life.

So next time you are out at Turkey Creek, stop by the new office and see some hard work in action. We would love to say hi and show off what we have accomplished. With a new, modern office space to work out of, and the work of dedicated staff and volunteers, we will keep growing, improving, and expanding this special place. Things are only looking up - and forward - here at Turkey Creek.
