  • Ruffner Mountain Eastern Trailhead 1942 Ruffner Road Birmingham, AL, 35210 United States (map)

Cost: $5 for non-members, Free for members. Members, please check your e-newsletter for your discount code.

Do do you think salamanders are super spectacular? We do too! Join our naturalists on a hike to the Big Crusher where we will get up-close and personal with stunning, splendid salamanders in their natural habitat. Learn to identify our amazing amphibian acquaintances while exploring less-traveled parts of Ruffner Mountain.

Bundle up and bring your rubber boots and a warm thermos. This program will involve an approximately 1.5-mile hike with no topography, as well as getting in the mud and cold water in January weather. Bring a water bottle, wear waterproof shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Gloves are recommended.

This program will meet at the Eastern Trailhead (1942 Ruffner Road), not the Nature Center entrance. Parking is very limited, so please carpool if possible.
