The International Crane Foundation works worldwide to protect cranes, and the ecosystems they depend on. Here in Alabama we have two species of crane, the Sandhill Crane and the Whooping Crane, both of which come to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge during the winter. The Whooping Crane is one of the rarest birds on the planet with only around 500 individuals in the wild, currently.
Come to the Ruffner Nature Center to learn about the what makes cranes so unique in cultures around the world, why the Whooping Crane became so endangered, how researchers are working to protect this species and how you can help! This program is presented by Amber Wilson of the International Crane Foundation.
