Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds, spending time in favorite places, watching and counting as many birds as can be found while reporting their observations—citizen science at its best. You can contribute to the science and conservation of the birds near you and across the globe with thousands of other birdwatchers.
Join ALABAMA AUDUBON to participate in this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count on February 17th at the Birmingham Zoo—it offers a variety of habitat and no less than 30 species can typically be seen on the walk, including hawks, woodpeckers, winter warblers, wrens, blackbirds, finches, and many other songbirds.
If you are a user of eBird or Merlin, your submissions over the 4-day event will automatically be added to the GBBC totals, helping scientists to better understand global bird populations and inform responsible conservation decisions. Obervation reports and trends allow scientists to better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations.
ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE You do not need to be an expert to participate, and you can event participate from home. All you need is a free eBird account, and observations be entered on ebird.org/submit/ or by using the free eBird Mobile app for Android and iPhone.
