Frogs and toads are indicator species - indicating the health of the environment by their population size. FrogWatch USA is a nation-wide citizen science initiative to monitor population sizes of local frogs and toads. Sign up for this FREE class to become a Certified FrogWatch USA Volunteer!

This class is in two sections on two different days:

Part 1: Saturday May 21st - 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve TreeHouse Nature Center. This two hour class will introduce you to the native frogs and toads of Jefferson County and the FrogWatch USA monitoring protocols. During this class, you will learn how to identify local frogs and toads by their call and how to input that information into the FrogWatch USA database. The class will culminate in an (easy) written test. Volunteers must also complete Part 2 to get a FrogWatch Volunteer Certificate. FREE

Part 2: Saturday May 28th - 7:00pm-9:00pm. Volunteers who participated in Part 1 will meet at the Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve TreeHouse Nature Center and then individually drive (or carpool) to Ruffner Mountain's nearby wetlands. From there, we will identify the frogs and toads in the wetlands and practice using FrogWatch USA protocols.
