FrogWatch USA Volunteer Certification Class

This program is full. If you are interested in attending another FrogWatch program in the future, please contact Chivon Morse at chivon@ruffnermountain.org.

Learn how to identify the calls of local frogs and toads while becoming certified in this nation-wide citizen science initiative to track frog and toad populations. This is a two component class: Lecture and Field. Space is limited, so be sure to register below!

Please bring the following to class: a writing utensil and something to write on for note taking, a flashlight or head lamp (red filter preferred)- not required

For the lab portion, we will be driving over to the Irondale side of the mountain and finishing the class there. We will be walking two miles (one mile to the wetlands, and one mile back) over a relatively even, but not stroller friendly trail. We recommend sturdy, closed toed shoes for hiking on a potentially muddy trail and to dress comfortably for outdoor weather conditions.

FrogWatch USA Volunteer Certification Class is four hours long, including a two hour lecture portion and an even two mile hike in the dark. The class will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early to get signed in. Please leave your pets at home.

Additional Details:
Only those who can take a written test at the end of the class will be considered certified, but others are welcome to participate.

Pizza will be provided for dinner, but you are more than welcome to bring your own dinner.

If you have any questions about this class, email chivon@ruffnermountain.org.
