Friends of Shades Creek is a nonprofit organization of local citizens working for the protection of, and responsible development along, beautiful Shades Creek in Alabama. Shades Creek is 56 miles long and begins just Southwest of Trussville, Alabama and ends near the Bibb/Shelby County line when it reaches the Cahaba River. Friends of Shades Creek is an all volunteer organization, and is led by a board of directors and an executive director. We hold monthly educational meetings on the second Thursday of the month at Homewood Public Library on Oxmoor Road. We are proud to host regular hikes at the Homewood Forest Preserve, an annual creek clean-up on the last Saturday in September, several canoe trips during the year, and the Salamander Festival on the last Saturday in January. We are supported by memberships and donations.
