Donald Kroodsma, Bird Song Specialist

  • Protective Life Corporation (map)

Birmingham Audubon Event

Donald Kroodsma is respected for his career as a scientist studying birdsong. When he and his son planned a continental trip by bicycle, the challenge was whether to ride from the Atlantic to Pacific or vice versa. Their final decision was influenced by beginning with spring in Virginia and Kentucky and ending in the cool Rockies later in the summer having “birds singing with us all across the continent.”

As the Sessions Speaker, Kroodsma will share stories from “Listening to a Continent Sing” as well as his birdsong research on December 1, 2016.  His visit is made possible by Protective Life Corporation, sponsor of the 70th Birmingham Audubon Annual Banquet. Register below for the evening banquet and Kroodsma’s presentation at Protective Life Corporation below.  A limited number of seats are also available for a mid-day Birmingham Audubon Lunch & Learn with Kroodsma at Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve. This program will run from 11:30 AM-1:00 PM.  Registration is required for both events.

The ornithologist is a lifelong scientist whose work has been recognized by organizations including the American Ornithologists’ Union, the American Birding Association and the Wilson Ornithological Society. He is the author of four books focused on birdsong. Kroodsma will be signing books during the social hour preceding dinner. Banquet attendees will also be able to purchase a copy of “Listening to the Continent Sing” from Books-a-Million staff before dinner.
