Dark Sky Week Hike & Presentation

Join Dr. Michelle Wooten for a talk about what the dark sky is and why it so important for wildlife and humans. After the presentation, follow us for an enchanting nighttime hike across Turkey Creek and more lessons on the night sky, stargazing, and enjoying nature after dark.

Dr. Wooten is an Assistant Professor of astronomy and dark sky preservation at UAB. She is also a member and lead of Starry Skies South, a chapter of DarkSky International.

Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. RED flashlights are required for the hike. You will be provided with a filter if you do not have a red filter. The hike will be approximately 1 mile on a flat asphalt road.
