COMMON GROUND: a Visual Exploration of Alabama's Industrial Impact on the Environment by Whitney Byington

Common Ground is an evolving set of art works made to explore the past and present effects of Alabama's Industrial Revolution. From Birmingham's magic-like, fast paced development, a byproduct of the steel industry to the watershed damage caused by abandoned coal mines and deforestation from iron ore mining, Common Ground examines the collision of the natural and industrial worlds.

On March 22, with selected works and a public panel discussion at Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, Whitney will begin her journey to prompt discussion throughout the Birmingham Community.
