Bib & Tucker Sew-Op Presents: The March Quilts

Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is a non-profit in Birmingham with the mission of cultivating skills for those who sew or want to sew. We have a vision of being a hub for sewing activities that empower, educate and engender economic development. We achieve our goals through programs such as The March Quilts.

This community art project chooses a theme of human or civil rights annually and sheds light on the theme through open sewing sessions where facilitators help participants embroider or appliqué quilt blocks. Members of Bib & Tucker then sew the blocks into quilts. In three years, the Sew-Op has celebrated the 50th anniversaries of the Selma to Montgomery marches and the Supreme Court ruling on Loving V. Virginia. It has also raised awareness of the gender wage gap. We have facilitated the creation of over 650 quilt blocks and sewn six quilts. For year 4, Bib & Tucker has chosen the theme of Environmental Awareness. This year, The March Quilts aims to foster a sense of connection to the natural world, promote sustainable development and encourage conservation of irreplaceable natural resources and vulnerable plant and animal species. We will facilitate sewing sessions at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the Birmingham Museum of Art, Ruffner Nature Center, UAB Hospital and more. To learn more visit: http://www.bibandtuckersewop.org/the-march-quilts.html
