Join The Nature Conservancy in Alabama, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, and Ruffner Mountain for an exciting work day on the banks of Shades Creek!
We will meet at the planting site, 2721 5th Ave. S, Irondale, AL 35210, at the western end of the Publisher's Warehouse building. We will be working along that section of the upper Shades Creek starting at 9AM until noon or 1PM. We plan to plant hundreds of native, riparian plants along the creek banks as the first planting of this restoration efforts with The Nature Conservancy and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.
If you would like to attend the Friday set-up date or the Saturday planting date please email Jamie Nobles at jamie@ruffnermountain.org or Charles Yeager at cyeager@bsc.edu. We will be grateful for all assistance for this project."
Some of the most vital habitats and ecosystems for native plant and animal life in the area are located along Shades Creek and its watershed. Through creek bank recontouring and the planting of riparian native plant species, we will create a built-in safeguard against invasive species in the area that will also act as a natural nursery for native plants. Finally this new riparian (creek side) biome will serve as a much-needed educational environment for local public schools and universities.
So, come on out and help us beautify Irondale and Birmingham as we work to ensure a healthy future for all of our native flora and fauna and learn more about biodiversity and ecology in the process!
