Alabama is the fourth-most biodiverse state in the United States. However, urbanization, invasives, lack of prescribed burns, and loss of essential Longleaf Pine forest in Alabama has caused significant population decline of many of our once-abundant native species. In this program, we will meet some of Alabama’s rare and protected species that many people have never encountered in the wild, and we will learn some steps that we can take to conserve our wild lands and native species.
