2024 Summer Internships & Apprenticeships

The Jefferson County Greenways Coalition is pleased to announce our 2024 Summer Internship and Apprenticeship Program for rising junior and senior undergraduate students. This year, four paid positions will be offered, each with their own focus, including Environmental Education/Wildlife Care, Land Conservation, Conservation Research, and Communications/ Development. This program offers a unique opportunity for students to develop professional experience working at, and learning about, some of Alabama’s most unique nature preserves and public greenways. The first three positions are especially appropriate for students majoring in biology, environmental studies, natural resource management, or any related field. Students majoring in marketing and communications are encouraged to apply to the Communications/Development Apprenticeship.
Selected applications will be expected to complete 160 hours during the summer months of 2024.
Compensation for the Summer Internship program is $2,500.
Special priority will be given to students attending college in Alabama or students from Alabama.
The application deadline is Friday, April 19th; selected students will be notified by April 24th for an interview.

The Environmental Education/Wildlife Care Intern will work directly with Stella Pfau, the Director of Programs and Community Partnerships, Emily Hutto, the Wildlife Care Naturalist, and other teaching naturalists. Interns will lead field trips and public programs for youth and families and assist with wildlife care responsibilities.
The Land Conservation Intern will work directly with Charles Yeager, the Director of Land and Water Conservation for the Jefferson County Greenways Coalition. Interns will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in land stewardship and conservation methodologies.
The Conservation Research Intern will work directly with Jamie Nobles, the Conservation Director for the Jefferson County Greenways Coalition. Interns will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in avian field studies, mist netting, bird banding, data collection and methodologies.
The Communications/Development Apprentice will work directly with Kristi Houk, the Communications Coordinator, Samantha Arceneaux, Development Director, and Leah Davis, Development Director.
