Alabama Folklife Association Presents: Quilt the Forest

  • Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve 1214 81st Street South Birmingham, AL, 35206 United States (map)

Join textile artist and nature enthusiast, Michelle Reynolds, for this fun quilt block workshop. Design, cut, layer, and stitch to make a one-of-a-kind fabric-art block to take home. The event is FREE, open to people of all ages, and no experience is necessary to participate.

Find inspiration in nature, develop ideas, and learn to tell a story through art. Using fabric and applique techniques, you will combine color, pattern, and texture to create a square. Enjoy camaraderie of fellow participants and explore techniques that work for you. Fabric and supplies will be provided.

In accordance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, all programs of the AFA are held in venues that meet these standards. Special accommodations will be made for persons with visual, hearing, or other disabilities upon request. Please contact or 205.956.9888.

Creating nature-inspired art from recycled fabrics and telling stories through her writing, teaching, and through her story quilts, Michelle Reynolds strives to weave together lessons in sustainability and appreciation for the natural world. In addition, she is a columnist for Alabama Gardener, native plant specialist, and contributes to numerous organizations and community projects dedicated to conservation, education, and enjoying the great outdoors.
