Scout Programs
We offer badge programs for scout groups of all ages. Please take a moment to look through our Field Trip Options page and see if one of our programs meets your group’s needs. If you do not see one that works we are happy to plan a custom program for you.

Planning your program:
Please assign one person with your organization to be in charge of making your program reservation. This person should go over the Field Trip Options page and decided if the group would like an existing program or a custom program. Also take a moment to complete the program request form as these are the questions you will need the answers for when you call or e-mail.
Number of People Participating:
At Ruffner we strive to keep our learning groups personable. We like to have a ratio of 1 naturalist for every 20 participants. If you plan on bringing more than 20 people, your group will divided into several groups. If you learn that your group numbers will change prior to your visit please let us know as soon as possible.
Deposit:
To reserve your program date, you must turn in a $50 non-refundable deposit. The deposit will be applied to your program balance. When we schedule your group, it means that we are unable to accommodate another group. Please make sure that when you schedule a program you are able to commit your group’s participation.
Weather:
At Ruffner we love being outdoors in all kinds of weather. The key to enjoying being outdoors is to be prepared. Make sure that you and your children dress for the day’s weather. If weather is deemed as dangerous we will work with you to reschedule your program. If rescheduling is not an option all payment received will be returned.
Traveling Programs:
Please note that we do have a traveling naturalist program that can come to you. We will bring several native Alabama animals to your group and teach them about wildlife. The program details can be found on the Teachers Program Guide page.
Program Times:
Please make sure that your group shows up together and on time. Late arrival will result in a shorter program or possible cancellation.
